The game that came first
What Parallel Kingdom was
Parallel Kingdom was a location-based role-playing game made by PerBlue of Madison, Wisconsin. It was released in October 2008 on iOS and Android, and it is described as the first location-based RPG on both.1
It passed one million players in 2011.1
The game moved through five Ages. The last, Age of Ascension, arrived on February 12, 2013. PerBlue announced the closure on September 30, 2016, and the servers closed on November 1, 2016.1
The history ends there. Everything below is about Crownfront, a separate game that shares the idea of a world on the real map.

What Crownfront has today
Territory
Flags claim the ground around them. A flag costs 2 Wood and 1 Leather. A plain flag burns in 30 seconds. Harden it with 3 Stone and it takes 24 hours.
Kingdoms and cities
A kingdom has a Hall and Towers. A city has founders, residents and an elected Mayor.
Your character
No classes. 70 skills across 19 tiers, 14 specializations and a respec.
Its own game
Where Crownfront goes its own way
An original world
Crownfront is a new game. It does not continue Parallel Kingdom and it does not reuse its names, art or data. Its creatures, items, kingdoms and rules are its own.
One world on every screen
The claim you make on your phone is the one you defend from your desk. Phone, tablet, Mac and PC all open the same character.
A kingdom has a heart
Every kingdom is anchored by its Kingdom Hall. Burn the Hall and the whole territory goes with it, so wars have a target and an ending.
No walking required
The game asks for your location once to place you on the map and never tracks you after that. You move by tapping inside your reach, so an evening on the sofa is still a campaign.
You are what you train
There are no classes to lock you in. Skills and specializations shape the character, and a respec lets you change course.
Choosing a game
What to look for in a GPS-based MMO
Many location games use the map as a backdrop for collecting. Players who loved Parallel Kingdom usually want something else, and three questions sort the options quickly.
- Does territory persist? A claim should still be there tomorrow, and someone should be able to take it.
- Is it one world? Rivalries only matter if everyone is on the same map.
- Can groups hold ground together? Kingdoms are what turn a map into politics.
Crownfront answers yes to all three. If you are searching for games like Parallel Kingdom, a location-based MMORPG or a GPS MMO with real territory, it was built for you.
